Islamabad: The procurement of the new MRI of PIMS was envisaged in 2020 under the leadership of Prof Ayesha isani Majeed . The PC-1 was approved in the same year and the tendering process was started in October 2020 . After the finalisation of the financial opening in December 2020 the whole process was sent to the MoNHSR&C for finalisation and was finalised in April 2021 with the minstry awarded the tender to Seimens Healthineers who were the lowest bidders .The LC was opened in June 2021 and the ball was in the companies court after that . Due to Covid the shipments got delayed and Seimens Healthineers asked for more time to mature their tender responsibilities . This however was followed by an economic crisis in the country with the dollar shooting up and also nevinibg scarce . This lead to both increase in price and delays in Letter of Credits being approved by the State bank of Pakistan . However , all is well which ends well and finally after overcoming both obstacles the MRI was installed on the 6th of September 2023 and after commissioning the Radiology deptt at PIMS under the leadership of Prof Ayesha isani has started patient lists from the 13 th of October 2023 .
75 patients have been scanned so far with a waiting list of 166 patients scheduled for the next 2 weeks . This is a state of art equipment 1.5 Tesla Somatom Sola model MRI which is the first of its kind in the public sector . It is the hard work amd perseverance of the HOD Radiology Dr Ayesha who used her own personal contacts to get LC’s opened at a time when no LC’s were being opened and who ran from pillar to post to get the dollar disparity amount approved from Planning minstry by taking up the matter urgently , timely amd assertively with the CDWP forum
May this facility benefit thousands of poor patients and be a beacon for other public sector hospitals if Pakistan .
