Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General – on the Suicide Bomb Attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

New York : The Secretary-General strongly condemns the suicide bombings at Hangu mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and at a religious procession in Mastung, Balochistan, Pakistan. The attacks reportedly killed at least 57 people, including children, and injured around 70 others. It is particularly abhorrent that the attacks occurred at a place of worship and during the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

He extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to those injured. 
The Secretary-General reiterates the solidarity of the United Nations with the Government and people of Pakistan in their efforts to address terrorism and violent extremism.
