UN : Families seek safety and services further from the fighting across eastern Ukraine.
Four-year-old Mykhailo started to get nervous at dawn, when his family was packing. Later, inside a heavily armoured vehicle designed to protect those being evacuated from shrapnel – his anxiety only increased. The boy could hear explosions outside the small round window and see columns of black smoke rising on the horizon.
Mykhailo travelled with his mother and 10-year-old brother Mykola from the village of Shevchenkove in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.
