Phase-I of the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme, known as the K-IV Project, is set to be finished by October 2024

The federal government has assigned the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) with the responsibility of constructing this vital project. The objective of the project is to provide Karachi with 650 million gallons of water daily from Keenjhar Lake in Thatta District, Sindh Province. Construction work is currently underway, with the K-IV project spanning a total length of 121 kilometers and an intake channel measuring 0.61 kilometers. The approved PC-1 budget for the project is Rs 126,000 million, with an allocation of Rs 20,000 million in the PSDP for the year 2022-23. The ECNEC approved PC-I for K IV (Phase-I) of 260 MGD in 2014, and it will be executed through KW&SB for the Open Channel Conveyance System with limited scope.
