Pak Army a top contributor to UN peacekeeping missions, Secy Defence

Islamabad :  2nd Pak-RSA Joint Defence Committee (JDC) was hosted by Ministry of Defence from 17-19 March, 2025. Secretary Defence, Lt.Gen Muhammad Ali HI (M) Retd, led the Pakistan side where as South African side was led by Dr.Thobekile Gamede, Acting Secretary of Defence, RSA.
Both the co-chairs of JDC discussed the matters of mutual interest and defence cooperation. Both sides showed satisfaction on various areas of common interest, and expounded upon prospective areas of defence collaboration between two countries.
Secretary Defence highlighted that Pakistan’s relations with South Africa are rooted in a long history of shared values of justice, freedom and respect for human rights. Pakistan Army is amongst the highest contributor of troops in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, contributing towards stability in Africa.

Secretary Defence also exclaimed that keeping in view the emerging challenges of contemporary world, it is imperative to further expand this collaboration by exploring new avenues through Joint Ventures in Defence innovation and niche technology like cyber, space, AI, Research and Development, transfer of technology and capacity building of Defence industry domain.

Dr Thobekile Gamede, Acting Secretary Defence for South Africa, expressed her gratitude to the Secretary Defence for warm hospitality and a productive meeting on defence matters. Dr. Gamede acknowledged the historic cordial relations between two nations depicting unanimity on principles of justice, fairness and respect for human rights. The Secretary expressed a keen interest in collaborating for joint ventures, technology transfer, training exchanges, and exploring opportunities for defense industrial cooperation.

Talks were held in a most cordial and congenial environment. Delegation leaders resolved to work together for enhanced cooperation in defence and agreed to conduct 3rd Round of Pakistan-RSA Joint Defence Committee (JDC) meeting in South Africa.
