Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar stated on Wednesday that the nation is grappling with financial challenges, and the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) incurring losses are exacerbating these economic difficulties. The Prime Minister presided over a high-level meeting regarding Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and expressed concerns about delayed decision-making regarding PIA issues. He emphasized the need to expedite the privatization of PIA and other loss-making SOEs, asserting that public tax money cannot cover their losses. He underscored the importance of transparency in the privatization process and holding individuals responsible for the losses to prevent further financial setbacks. The meeting also reviewed the financial status of PIA and its privatization progress, with all obstacles to privatization reportedly resolved. The Prime Minister called for expediting the privatization of the national flag carrier to reduce the burden on the national treasury.
