The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has entered into three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Pepsi, Nestle and Coca-Cola for the implementation of a PET Bottles Return Back system.
According to these MoUs, each company will establish PET bottle crushing and baling units in two district headquarters within Gilgit-Baltistan. Additionally, they will set up collection points for PET bottles in urban centers throughout the region as part of the agreement.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency will serve as the focal agency representing the GB Government, while the companies will be coordinated by CoRe.
The ceremony announcing these agreements, held in Islamabad, was attended by officials from the GB Government and senior management representatives from Pepsi, Nestle and Coca-Cola.
The GB Environmental Protection Agency will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring the implementation of this process, both during and after its establishment.
In a statement, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohyddin Ahmed Wani emphasized that the PET Return Back system is expected to contribute to the preservation of the natural environment, pollution prevention, and the removal of PET bottles from waste streams. This initiative aligns with sustainability and environmental protection goals.
