Geneva: Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), issued a grave warning on Wednesday, stressing that the situation in the Gaza Strip was rapidly deteriorating. His statement followed a tragic hospital blast that claimed the lives of hundreds.
Ghebreyesus took to Twitter to express his concerns, stating, “The situation in Gaza is spiraling out of control, and we urgently need an end to violence on all sides.” He emphasized that with every passing moment, lives were being lost, underlining the critical need for immediate access to deliver life-saving supplies.
The devastating blast tore through a Gaza hospital, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives late on Tuesday. The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed that at least 500 innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children, tragically perished in a brutal Israeli airstrike on the al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza.
The Israeli Defense Forces attributed the incident to a misfired outgoing Islamic Jihad rocket, while the Palestinian account of events differed. Independent corroboration of either account remains elusive.
The international community watches with growing concern as the situation in Gaza continues to worsen, with calls for immediate action to prevent further loss of life.
