Indonesia’s football federation (PSSI) officially declared their support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. This endorsement comes a week after PSSI President Erick Thohir mentioned discussions with Australia about a potential joint bid for the prestigious event.
In an official release, Thohir stated, “In support of Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment. Indonesia remains steadfast in its preparations to bid for hosting FIFA World Cup events post-2034, along with other FIFA competitions.”
The upcoming 2034 FIFA World Cup bidding process is open to countries in the Asia and Oceania region, with a deadline set for October 31. In the previous week, Thohir had engaged in talks with his Australian counterpart regarding a possible joint bid, which could have also involved Malaysia and Singapore in a collaborative effort. This move reflects the football community’s commitment to expanding the sport’s reach and impact across nations in the region.
