Digital technology more cost effective for developing countries, Dr. Shamshad

Islamabad : Dr.Shamshad Akhtar, Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, & Economic Affairs, addressed the Pakistan Spotlight Day at the WEF – Edison Alliance event.

She congratulated the Alliance on the success achieved on the 1 Billion Lives Challenge, with a focus on accelerating digital inclusion for the 1.4bn unbanked population in developing countries.

Her speech highlighted initiatives from Pakistan, specifically the Asaan Mobile Account (AMA) initiative, which led to the opening of 8.5 million new bank accounts, including 3.2mn for women, & BISP, that provides financial assistance to 8M families using digital payments.

She further underscored the need to make digital technology more cost effective & affordable for developing countries and stressed the need to replicate the successful Alliance initiatives in healthcare, education, & finance across developing economies.
