Islamabad : A delegation of electric bikes manufacturing company Wuxi Co., Ltd of Jiangsu Province of China led by its Chairman Zhao Shuju visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and showed interest to explore business opportunities for e-bikes in the Pakistani market
Addressing the delegation, Faad Waheed, Acting President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Pakistan is the fifth largest motorbike market in the world and Chinese investors should set up e-bikes manufacturing plants in Pakistan to meet the needs of Pakistani consumers. He said that there are around 23 million registered motorbikes in Pakistan but they use fuel and create air pollution. He said that e-bikes are environmentally friendly and have a great future in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan’s Electrical Vehicles Policy 2020-25 provides great incentives and tax exemptions to promote local manufacturing of electric vehicles and Chinese investors should take benefit of it by setting up production units in Pakistan. He said that their investment in Pakistan in the e-bikes sector would cut greenhouse gas emissions and provide green jobs to thousands of people. He said that the government has issued licenses to 31 companies for local manufacturing of e-bikes out of which around six companies are currently either manufacturing or assembling e-bikes of different variants. Therefore, it is the right time for Chinese investors to capture this niche market to earn lucrative returns. He assured that ICCI would connect them with right partners in Pakistan for partnerships and joint ventures.
Speaking on the occasion, Zhao Shuju, Head of Chinese delegation said that they have 4-5 factories of e-bike manufacturing in Jiangsu Province of China and they want to penetrate the Pakistani market. He said that they are on an exploratory visit to study the market potential for e-bikes in Pakistan. The delegation members asked many questions about the scope, future potential, rules, regulations and business environment for e-bikes in Pakistan and got detailed answers up to their satisfaction to consider Pakistan for business and investment.
Engr. Azhar ul Islam Zafar, Vice President ICCI said that Pakistan has great potential for pink e-bikes for female customers and stressed that the Chinese investors should introduce pink e-bikes at subsidized rates in Pakistan.
Tauseef Zaman former Senior Vice President ICCI, Dr. Joharia Azhar, Sadaf Asim Abbasi and others also spoke on the occasion and stressed that Chinese investors should bring technology and expertise to Pakistan to start production of e-bikes.
