Islamabad: The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum, convened by Senator Prince Ahmed Omer Ahmedzai, met at the Parliament House to examine the initiatives undertaken by both public and private oil and gas companies in Balochistan under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
During the Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) CSR briefing, MPCL officers conveyed that a total of 453 projects are currently operational. They emphasized that the thematic areas of these projects are determined by social welfare considerations. Senator Fida Hussain raised concerns regarding the operational details of accounts in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab MPCL blocks. The convener Senator Prince Ahmed Omer Ahmedzai recommended that the Ministry of Petroleum may sort the reports of operational and non-operational accounts of district committees.
Additionally, Senator Fida Hussain inquired about the exclusion of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from social welfare projects, particularly in terms of spending on women.
Furthermore, Convener Senator Prince Ahmed Omer Ahmedzai suggested that senators, as members of parliament, should be involved in the composition of district committees.
Similarly, other companies, like MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company gave their brief presentation on CSR efforts and were appreciated by the members of the sub-committee. The committee recommended that private companies involve local people in their workforce to get local people’s support.
The sub-committee was attended by Senator Fida Muhammad, senior officials of the Ministry for Energy (Petroleum division), CSR, and senior officers of oil and gas public and private companies.
