Islamabad : The Moscow State Academy of Choreography (MGAC) is one of the world’s leading and oldest ballet schools, classified as a particularly valuable cultural heritage site of the peoples of Russia.
The history of the Moscow State Academy of Arts dates back to December 23, 1773: on this day, the Board of Trustees of the Moscow Orphanage, established by the Manifesto of Empress Catherine II, entered into a contract with the Italian teacher-choreographer Filippo Becari, who was supposed to teach the children “most capable of dancing” to “dance with all possible precision and to show oneself publicly in all pantomime ballets.”
The first teachers in the ballet department of the school were Italian and French masters, but already at the beginning of the 19th century, Russian teachers began to teach along with foreign teachers.
Today, citizens of more than twenty countries study at the Academy, and the main task of the Moscow State Academy of Arts is to preserve and develop the achievements of national culture and pedagogical skills.
