The third meeting of PANAH Think Tank chaired by President PANAH Maj. Gen. (R) Masood ur Rehman Kiani
Islamabad. The Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) has formed a think tank comprising health professional, civil society, and policy makers from across Pakistan to reduce NCD mortality and morbidity. An effective strategy can be formulated by taking guidance from the tried and tested methods of the world. The third meeting of this think tank was held under the chairmanship of President Panah Major General (retd) Masoodur Rahman Kiani. The participants in the think tank included health and economic professional, Civil Society, Media and concerned Ministries. Consideration was given to how morbidity and mortality could be reduced by developing a comprehensive strategy to reduce non-communicable diseases in Pakistan.
General Masoodur Rahman Kiani said that the recent increase in heart and related diseases is alarming. In this case, the responsibility of PANAH has increases to follow the world’s proven and effective methods to protect people from these diseases. PANAH has formed this think tank comprising experts from all fields across Pakistan to tackle this challenge of growing diseases. He told the think tank members that you are experts in your field and with your suggestions we will be able to work more effectively to eradicate these diseases.
Members suggested that our focus should be prevention rather than cure. This requires more effective policy advocacy as well as information on how to prevent these diseases among the public so that the factors that lead to these diseases can be removed from the reach of the public. It was decided to form more sub groups of this think tank who would formulate their own proposals and in the next meeting they would put their proposals before the members and after deliberation, they would be approved
