Media workshop aimed to bolster students’ proficiency in media literacy

Rawalpindi : The Department of Communication and Media Studies (CMS), Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organized a one-day workshop for the students in collaboration with the Centre for Excellence in Journalism at IBA (CEJ-IBA) and UNDP.

The workshop aimed to bolster students’ proficiency in media literacy, fact-checking, tackling information disorder, and creating awareness about negative online narratives. Ms. Amber Shamsi, who is the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), an esteemed figure in the field, is not only an award-winning multimedia journalist but has extensive expertise spans television, radio, online, and print media, making her an ideal guide for students seeking to navigate the complexities of the media landscape, served as the resource person for this enlightening session.

During the workshop, Ms. Shamsi comprehensively covered crucial topics such as Media Literacy, Information Disorder, the creation of a safe digital space, and the art of effective fact-checking. The event attracted a significant turnout, with a large number of students from the Department of Communication and Media Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, and BCA actively participating and benefiting from the insightful discussions and practical insights provided. The collaboration with CEJ-IBA and UNDP underscored the commitment of the department to equip its students with essential skills and knowledge, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the dynamic media industry.
