President Kazakhstan Accepts Resignation of Govt, Appoints Acting Prime Minister

ALMATY: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has accepted the resignation of the government on Monday, as confirmed by his office in a statement. The president has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar as the acting prime minister in the interim.The statement from Tokayev’s office did not provide specific reasons for the cabinet’s resignation, leaving the motive behind the decision unclear. However, it’s noteworthy that government reshuffles are not uncommon in Kazakhstan.Kazakh President Signs DecreeThe decree published by the Kazakh presidency said, the president accepted the resignation of the government in accordance with Article 70 of the country’s constitution.The decree further said the president temporarily assigned the duties of prime minister to First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar.“Members of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan continue to perform their duties until the approval of the new composition of the Government,” the decree also said.The decree comes into force from the date of its signing, it added.​​​​​​​
