“Seoul celebrates ‘Ambassador for a Day’ for International Women’s Day.”

Seoul  :  The Embassy of Italy in the Republic of Korea organized, on the occasion of International Women’s Day , the third edition of ” Ambassador for a day “, a project that allows a Korean university student to work alongside the Ambassador of Italy in Seoul , Emilia Gatto , during a typical day, to acquire high-level direct experience in an international working context.

The student was selected following an evaluation of the papers that participants from various Korean universities were asked to write on the topic ” Empowering Change: Why Eliminating violence against women will contribute to the wellbeing of men “, developing their ideas and contributing to the enrichment of a dialogue that can lead to a profound change in the field of gender violence, not least in light of recent news events in our country.

The winner Jennifer Yaewon Lee , a student of international studies at the prestigious Ewha Womans University , had the opportunity, last March 5, to accompany Gatto during his daily activities, participating in meetings with relevant figures in the cultural, scientific sector and industrial. Among these meetings also the one with Professor Marica Branchesi, full professor of Astrophysics at the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) and associate researcher of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), who chairs the Scientific Council of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF ) and the Observation Science Board of the Einstein Telescope (ET), the future largest gravitational wave detector in the world that Italy is a candidate to host.

The day ended with a networking dinner, attended by influential women from different sectors, such as politics, culture and academia.

“What we wanted to think about with this edition is the idea that gender violence not only impacts women but has consequences for the whole of society. This is not a zero-sum game, the elimination of violence against women can contribute and has positive implications for men too. It is important that these issues are discussed, and this is why this year we wanted to focus on the creation and strengthening of a network of knowledge that can lead to a fervent exchange of ideas” declared the Italian Ambassador Emilia Gatto .
