Green Journalist Awards recognize media highlighting climate action, Romina

Islamabad: Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change and Environment Romina Khurshid Alam presented the Green Journalist Award to environmental journalists, recognizing the media’s services in highlighting climate action.
Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) organized World Environment Day 2024 with awareness walk, debate competition etc. including a variety of meaningful events, and starting the World Environment Day celebrations by organizing the Green Journalist Award here at the National Press Club. Romina Khursheed Alam thanked the EPA director general for reviving the award for climate journalists. He informed that the next climate award will be held in the name of the late senior journalist Shabbir Hussain, who dedicated his life to the task.
All four provinces should come for national recognition and this award will be given under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” he said.
Romina said climate change and global warming have no limits and are an integral part of our lives. He said that the reporter was the eyes and ears that informed him of confidential information.
The Assistant Prime Minister further expressed his gratitude to the Press Club for its support to the journalist fraternity in enhancing their climate reporting skills in organizing capacity building workshops and awards.


“We started our first work in the Press Club. It is important to empower journalists, politicians and decision-makers to learn and understand the basics of climate reporting,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the heroes and fire fighters who risked their lives in forest fire operations. Romina also appreciated the civil organization and the armed forces for their united and coordinated response to the recent forest fires in the Margalla Hills National Park.
