Oguzkent : In the Turkmen capital, negotiations were held between the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the General-Secretary of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, who arrived in our country on a visit the previous evening.
The meeting of the President of Turkmenistan and the UN General-Secretary, which opened a new page in the history of bilateral relations, took place in the capital’s fashionable Oguzkent.
During the meetings in a narrow format and in an expanded format with the participation of members of the delegations, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and UN General-Secretary Antonio Guterres discussed issues of developing partnership in various areas.
As is known, the comprehensive development and strengthening of multifaceted partnership with the UN is one of the key vectors of the foreign policy of sovereign Turkmenistan, which is invariably committed to the principles of openness, peacefulness and active international cooperation in the common interests.
The United Nations Secretary-General and his delegation visited the UN House and met with the UN Country Team. These discussions focused on enhancing UN’s support to the country to rescue the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Mr. Guterres emphasized the need to work closely with national partners for people and the sustainable development of the country.
“The UN is very proud to be here working in Turkmenistan, and supporting the policies of Turkmenistan for its development in all areas, and for its commitment to the protection of its people.
I would like to say that to make this possible, the Government of Turkmenistan has been extremely generous in providing the UN staff with all the conditions to work in the best possible way” said the Secretary General.
