The IT Ministry intends to digitalize Hajj procedures

Next year’s Hajj operation will undergo full digitization in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications. This initiative aims to keep Hajj pilgrims informed about all matters in a timely manner and promptly address any complaints they may have.

The decision was made during a meeting of the special committee established under the directive of the Prime Minister earlier this month. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Umar Saif, the caretaker Minister for IT & Telecommunication, and co-chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Aneeq Ahmed.

During the meeting, officials provided insights into the current system used for the Hajj operation. Dr. Umar Saif emphasized that, following the Prime Minister’s directives, a Smart Phone Application and Web portal would be developed, and the entire Hajj operation would be digitized. This digitization aims to enable pilgrims to provide digital feedback on Hajj operations and facilities, similar to leading platforms in the housing and hospitality sectors.

Dr. Umar Saif instructed the National Information Technology Board (NITB) to promptly enhance the existing Hajj operation system, addressing any shortcomings, and deploy an expert team from NITB to the Ministry of Religious Affairs to oversee the system.

Chairman of the committee, Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmed, emphasized the need for upgrading the current system related to Hajj operations. This move toward digitization is expected to enhance the overall experience and transparency of the Hajj pilgrimage process.
