On October 21, 2023, Caretaker Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, proudly declared that Pakistan possesses the most sensitive polio surveillance system globally. The rapid confirmation of the virus in environmental samples serves as a testament to the system’s remarkable efficiency.
Dr. Nadeem Jan emphasized that polio is an incurable disease, and only vaccination can provide children with lifelong protection against it. To further combat the virus, the government is planning to organize a polio vaccination campaign next month in areas where the virus is still present.
He urged parents to ensure that their children receive polio drops during every vaccination campaign. Additionally, it was reported that the Ministry of Health identified a polio case in Karachi, marking the fourth case of polio in the country this year.
